BRDCST is AB’s outstanding indoor spring festival spotlighting musical boundlessness. The name is a direct reference to the retro futuristic electronica-pop of the English band Broadcast that released inspiring albums like ‘Haha Sound’ and ‘Noise Made By The People’ over the past decade. Artists who feel strongly about musical innovation form the focal point for BRDCST. Our musical gut feeling will do the rest.
WOLF EYES (us)
Jack White is a fan and released their latest ‘regular’ album ‘I am Problem: Mind in Pieces’ on his very own Third Man Records. Sub Pop had already fallen for them in the past and released their brutal album ’Human Animal’ in ’06. And – to add to the list of credentials – Sonic Youth, die-hard fans, took them along on tour at the time. The output of this noise trio hailing from Detroit Michigan is now heading into the hundred(s), of which many a release on CDRs and cassettes, and they often do so on their own labels (such as Aaron Dilloway’s Hanson Records or John ‘Inzane’ Olson’s American Tapes). Wolf Eyes’ trip metal is still extremely relevant after all these years and should, by definition, be the soundtrack of every B-movie to see the light of day.
AUTHOR & PUNISHER (us)
The latest album by one man industrial doom metal band Tristan Shone may then be called ‘Melk en Honing’, but his destructive dark music seriously crosses the line even further than you thought was possible. What’s more, Tristan Shone builds his own music machines – that bear the name drone machine or dub machine – whereby the border between man and machine gets blurry. Kraftwerk was right after all (with their song ‘Man Machine’)! And maybe Lou Reed’s ‘Metal Machine Music’ was already a musical ode/omen for Author & Punisher.
Not unusual in these circles: the enormous output of noise makers like Philadelphia-resident one-man band NAH. His latest release ‘PURCHASE: — Selected Works 2011-2015’ contained no less than 60 tracks/sketches full of rhythmic noise outbursts. And – not surprisingly – his next album ‘MICHAEL, UNTITLED WORKS 2016’ is on its way, with no less than 100 minutes of music. What’s more, his latest 7’’ ‘May 7th’ is a collaboration with city-mates and BRDCST-guests Moor Mother.
