The Belgian Development Agency and the C4D Network will be co-hosting a C4D seminar on Thursday April 27th in Brussels, all welcome.
The Belgian Development Agency BTC is co-hosting an event with the C4D Network — Lessons in mainstreaming C4D in Development Programme Areas — to look at how communication for development contributes to programme areas in international development, and how it is making a contribution in areas of economic empowerment and via digital innovations.
The event will be held at the Belgian Development Agency (BTC) offices Rue Haute 139, 1000 Bruxelles, or you can join in the seminar via Skype. Please send your Skype details to [email protected]

1:30 pm Introduction to Communication for Development thinking within the Belgian Development Agency, and learning about mainstreaming C4D into programme areas. ‘Including Communication for Development in a project does not require an exceptional effort. It demands a listening and open attitude throughout the project to make it locally cherished, facilitate its progress and enhance its impact.’ Quoting from ‘Communication for development – dialogue and involvement for sustainable results (a manual)’, issues in January 2017. 2:30 pm C4D Network Introduction – Introduction to the Network, a global social network of people and institutions engaged in communication for development; with 3000+ members, present in 136 countries and with emerging Country Chapters around the world. Including latest developments for 2017, including 50 country C4D mapping study. (Jackie Davies, Founder, C4D Network & representatives of the Belgium Country Chapter of the Network)
3:00 pm Presentation of the C4D Network Syria project – Social Media Skills for Youth Participation and Entrepreneurship. This is a project with UNICEF focusing on support the development of young people’s skills and capacities, and provide them with opportunities to design, develop and establish social and business entrepreneurship initiatives that can improve their livelihoods, and create innovative solutions to some of the social problems faced in the community. The C4D Network has developed curriculum in Arabic and has conducted training of trainer for a set of ‘Young Researchers’ who will now cascade train 200 selected youth, and the Network will provide support and mentoring throughout the year as youth produce social media packages to assist with business and social initiatives. 4:00 pm Discussion panel – What value has communication for development for development programme areas, and what is the evidence? Based on the preceding input we shall have a facilitated discussion about lessons learnt about mainstreaming C4D in programme areas.
