This August, Embassy of India, Brussels & Ministry of Culture, Government of India is delighted to bring to Belgium & Luxembourg, the ancient martial art of Kalaripayattu, from the Indian State of Kerala — which like everything Indian- is deeply connected to the nature and intricately linked to spirituality;

One of the oldest martial arts in the world, also dubbed as “the Mother of all Martial Arts” — Kalarippayattu, has evolved over the years and like Yoga, the basic essence of Kalari is preserved in the Indian Traditions; Inspired by the animals and their interactions with nature, the Kalari incorporates several animal postures like the aggressiveness exhibited by a wild boar or the litheness demonstrated by a snake;

Attributed to the ancient sage Agastya and to Lord Parashurama, this art is not merely about making impressive postures and movements nor is it solely about self defence and attack; Kalarippayattu, similar to the principles in Yoga, aims to elevate the body and mind to a higher state of consciousness, opening up in the process the unexplored potentials of a human body and focusing to become in sync with the Eternal;

On August 12, 2017, this ancient art form will be showcased in Brussels by Martial Art Troupes from Sree Bharath Kalari, Kannur at the much loved “Freedom 70, Indian Food Festival”; Embassy of India, Brussels is partnering with the organizer of the Indian Food Festival ‘Indian Confluence’ to bring this cultural bonanza to the wider audience;

On August 13, 2017, the art believed to have been taught by Lord Parashurama, will be showcased in Durboy at the Janmashtami Celebrations in ISKON, Radhadesh;

On August 16, 2017, Embassy of India, Brussels is partnering with the Indian Association Luxembourg to showcase this art to our Luxembourg friends, at Place d’ armes in Luxembourg city;
