With the brand new series #Tumbleweed, we delve into the extraordinary richness of the up and coming Belgian film and art scene.
Tumbleweed #1: The Kindness of Strangers is a short film program with six mesmerizing films that will transform your ordinary, grey, post-Sinterklaas, Wednesday — a day you’ll likely forget — into a brief moment of life lasting.
The four recent film works by young Belgium-based filmmakers explore encounters, connections, and desires, curiously probing the distance between oneself and the other. They are accompanied by two films by the Singaporean filmmakers collective 13 Little Pictures, a small production platform that operates outside traditional funding schemes and bound by a spirit of collaboration.
The filmmakers Myrthe Baptist, Mieriën Coppens, Eva Giolo, and Hannah Bailliu will be present for a conversation after the projection, as will Daniel Hui from 13 Little Pictures. CINEMATEK will host an evening with Daniel Hui on Monday, December 4 should you already like to get acquainted with his work.
The Kindness of Strangers is the first edition of the Tumbleweed series in which we try to shine a light on works by young filmmakers working in and around Belgium.
