A+ Architecture in Belgium and BOZAR invite you to the Horizontal Metropolis Summer School! Organized as part of the exhibition Horizontal Metropolis – a radical project realized under the direction of the architect and urbanist Paola Viganò, the Summer School will take place from July 9th to July 15th 2018, in Brussels.

Horizontal Metropolis – a radical project, an exhibition curated by Paola Viganò, in collaboration with Martina Barcelloni Corte and Chiara Cavalieri and students from the EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne), IUAV and other international schools, describes contemporary diffuse urbanity as a support for an innovative urban project in political and spatial terms. Already shown at the Venice Biennale in 2016, the exhibition will be shown in BOZAR in Brussels from June 15th until August 26th, in an extended version including research to 3 supplementary cases:
• Flanders: the Gent-Heusden-Destelbergen case
• Brussels: the West Garden case
• Wallonia: the Sambreville case

The Horizontal Metropolis Summer School, organized in collaboration with the architecture faculties of UGent, KULeuven, ULB and the EPFL, has the ambition to develop new perspectives on the three Belgian cases and thereby complete the material of the Venice Biennale exhibition. Supervised by a team of experts and punctuated by seminars and debates, the workshop, a time for research and design, will result in the production of three large models that will feature the exhibition at BOZAR Brussels. Prof. Michiel Dehaene, (UGent), Joachim Declerck and Roeland Dudal (Architecture Workroom Brussels and KULeuven), Géry Leloutre (ULB) and Paola Viganò (EPFL Lausanne, IUAV Venezia) will be, amongst others, the tutors of the Summer school.

Do you want to be part of it? Please send your application (< 5Mb) including your CV and a few relevant projects to [email protected] before May 7th. We will confirm the selection of the candidates on May 14th. The Summer School is open to 40 Master students in Architecture and young architects from Belgium and abroad.
